Here is a common instruction given among novice instructors and club level players. The command is, "take your racket back as soon as the ball leaves your opponents racket."
This advice does nothing to foster any improvement in your game. In fact, running to a ball with your racket back is like dragging a stick in the mud.
Rather, one should first focus on using sound footwork to achieve an optimal distance between the player and the ball. Then, you should only take your racket back AFTER the ball has bounced, at the very least!
Sometimes practicing on your own, reading tips, and working out with team members isn't enough. If you have the time, you should give one of our local instructors a call!
