BCTA in the COMMUNITY
This year the BCTA had a goal of increasing the awareness of tennis in Benicia and our Association. To that end we we:
- Tabled at the Benicia Run for Education event
- Marched in the Benicia July 4th (Torchlight) Parade
- Purchased a memory brick at new BHS Stadium
- Volunteered at North Bay Mens Pro Challenger Tournament
- Held holiday fundraising tournament benefiting Toys for Tots and North Bay Humane Society. Collection included $250 in cash; 58 toys & books for the kids; 60 used blankets and towels plus 21 food bowls/litter pans/new blankets and 20 lbs of food for the animals along with 2 large garbage bags full of used tennis balls
- Donated and installed 5 new nets at BHS for BUSD
- Continued to attend BUSD Board Meetings, to raise awareness of the success of our youth programs and get the courts fixed under Measure S
YOUTH TENNIS
- 84 children participated in our year-round after-school programs and summer camps
- Provided 166 hours of instruction
- Hosted a girls JV high school tournament over the summer with 3 teams (Benicia, Jesse Bethel and El Cerrito) and 10 participants, playing singles and doubles
ADULT TENNIS
- Hosted 21 USTA teams throughout 2017
- 14 teams advanced to playoffs
- 3 teams advanced to districts
- Hosted 2 tri-level tournament teams
- Year-end ratings increase for 18 players
- Provided 18 cases of balls for league play
- 137 players participated on USTA teams for BCTA
BENICIA HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
- Boys team finished second in SCAC league play under the first year boys coaching staff of Lisa Burton & Melanie Voss. Rajan Bhatia & Nathan Tabtab advanced to the Sectional Individual Tournament for the 3rd year in a row
- Girls team finished first in SCAC league play, their 5th year in a row. They also broke the all-time consecutive wins record and set a new and final record of 73-0. Melanie Fisher, Madeline Beyer and Madison Lammert advanced to the Sectional individual Tournament for the second year in a row.
- Coach Lisa Burton received the SCAC Female Model Coach of the Year award for 2017.
